Managing Director Peter Buckell formed the business to concentrate on regional departures, as the former Marketing & PR Manager of Norwich Airport and a former General Manager of a scheduled regional airline he understood how important local departure points are to travellers with their less congested and faster check-in times and impact on the environment. Today those same values are paramount to the company and its clientele. Peter explains “We will always go the extra mile for our customers; we want them to become friends and enjoy the experience of booking their travel arrangements with us. We value our staff very highly too, because if you look after them – they will look after our customers. Most businesses do not understand that philosophy”
The company was established as Global Express Travel Ltd in November 1997 and operated from retail premises in Old Catton, Norwich as a franchised partner of one of the UK’s largest travel consortiums. That particular branch was sold in 2002 to allow the business to become truly independent and following customer demand, the company re-opened a branch in Sprowston, Norwich in 2004 with ABTA membership and bonding in its new change of name to Global Travel Lounge Ltd. During the past 10 years the business has expanded to two branches (Norwich & Gt.Yarmouth) employing 12 persons. It is also a member of AITO (Association of Independent Tour Operators) as a Specialist Travel Agent offering a wider choice of quality travel products and a member shareholder of Britain’s longest established travel consortium, The Elite Travel Group.
In 2006 Nash Al-Muhsen joined the Board as Operations Director, he was previously General Manager and has been with the business since 2001. All staff is trained to ABTA, AITO and ITT standards and many have qualified as destination experts undergoing intensive training and familiarisation visits to hotels, resorts, cruise ships and the main attractions. The expert knowledge of staff led Global Travel Lounge Ltd to be ranked No.3 in the entire UK for customer service and satisfaction by AITO market research amongst the travelling public in 2006.
In October 2007 Global Travel Lounge Ltd were awarded ‘Elite Travel Agent of the Year 2007’ by tour operators, cruise lines, airlines and the travel trade in recognition of the Company’s performance in all market sectors. This proves that Global Travel Lounge Ltd is totally committed to both customers and suppliers alike and consistently exceeds expectations!
